Your pet has basic needs, just like you. We all require food, water, and shelter. When traveling in the US or internationally, we have the expectation that we, as people, will have our needs met at the destination. There will be hotel accommodations, plenty of restaurants to choose, and you can have your beverage of choice. However, when traveling with your pet, similar accommodations are not provided for them.
You can't expect your destination to provide food or water for your pet. You also can't expect for the destination to provide accommodations for pets. Before you travel, consider your pets' basic needs. Please note-any sudden changes in what your pet consumes can lead to vomiting or diarrhea-you don't want that to happen while you are traveling.
To ensure basic needs are met for your pet, you should do the following:
- Bring along your pets' normal diet
- Provide bottled water instead of tap water.
- Search for pet-friendly hotel accommodations.
